NEWPORT, R.I.: Realizing that he has little or no life experience, Hopkin's protagonist Whistle has no idea where he will go or where he might end up. But that doesn't stop him from venturing out on his own—and encountering a number of engaging characters and strange situations along his unexpected, harrowing, yet entertaining journey. And throughout, the reader will feel they are with him every step of the way. Even his name, derived from his mother's own 1970's personal heroes, foreshadows the quirkiness and twists he is destined to encounter.

Welcome to the Absolutely Astounding Life of Whistle Evel Fonzarelli Starr is an original and enriching first novel that affords the reader a compelling sense of adventure and discovery. Crafted with both thoughtful and detailed prose, the novel transports the reader through all manner of Whistle's great successes and epic failures as his life evolves and grows in the most astonishing way.

And in the end, the reader just might discover there is a little Whistle in all of us.

He now lives with his wife Lisa in their log cabin surrounded by plenty of woods and wildlife. They have two grown children, Kelcey Read and Dryden Peter. They also enjoy five crazy grandkids, Catalina May, Dryden Shane, Nadia Read, Delilah Rayne, and last but not least, Mabel Lily. This is Shane's first novel.
