It’s been 10 years since Carl Frederickson set out on a unique journey to South America. If you are a Disney fan then you’d know what we mean!

Up isn’t just a movie. It’s definitely not just a story. It was an adventure for all of us who often dream of escaping life and living inside our fantasy. Things were pretty much the same for 78-year-old Carl, who as a child idolized well-known explorer Charles F. Muntz.

While he dreamed of seeing the whole world, Carl suddenly came across the love of his life, Ellie, who was also a Muntz fan. Together, they decide to live the life of their dream. They get married and turn their house into creative heaven. Eventually, life’s humdrum get to them and their dreams remain just dreams!

When Ellie suffered a miscarriage and was told she couldn’t have kids, our emotions were hurt as much as our then-favorite couple. We admired their love when even after life hit them hard—Ellie and Carl decided to fulfill Ellie’s dream—moving their house to the cliff of Paradise Falls! Enthusiastically, they try to save every dime that they could only to pay bills and gather funds. But life being its usual self gets in the way, yet again.

Tears streamed down our eyes in melancholy one day Ellie didn’t get up. Life turned upside down for Carl after that. As an audience, the young felt jitters imagining the truth of life while the old re-lived what they had been through in reality. That’s when he decides to fulfill the promise he made to Ellie—become an adventurer! So, he sets himself upon a journey to explore the wilderness of South America!

While the starting bit of this film was an emotional rollercoaster for most of us, the rest of the movie looked like a fine fantasy—you know it.

So one day, in the middle of his struggle to save his house from real-estate developers, Carl turns his house into an airship and flies away! We bet you imagined that tiny Up house hanging by colorful helium balloons! Unknowingly, a cute little kid known as Russell accompanies him.

That’s when the real escapade begins. The real Up fans know it! Those who have only watched the movie for the sake of it know it, and have fallen in love with this adventure! Those who have no idea about animation have watched this film as well, and can tell you all about the house that floats with colorful balloons—our point is, this little movie found a place in everyone’s heart! It had something for everyone!

The older audience enjoyed the first hour of the story and children rolled out of their chairs in excitement as they watched the adrenaline rushing through the veins of Carl and Russell. All’s well that ends well, but we’d shut up for people who have still not watched Up.

The film received a lot of critical appraise as well as honors. It earned 5 Oscar nominations, out of which it won two—Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score.

On its ten years’ anniversary this year, let’s re-visit the dreamy adventure of Carl and the little kid. And those who haven’t watched this unbelievably stunning film, today is a good time, you know what we mean!

Long Live the love of Ellie and Carl!
