Review: Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi starrer Dil Bechara that released today on Disney Plus Hotstar mark the directorial debut of casting director Mukesh Chhabra. As a debutant director, Mukesh manages to impress.

The film is based on novelist John Green’s bestseller ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ which was adapted into a Hollywood movie with the same name that was released in 2014.

Dil Bechara is a tale of love, hope, and loss that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions - as it will be marked and remembered as Sushant Singh Rajput's last film. It was difficult to see him play a jovial cancer patient, laughing, dancing, and wooing his co-star, as every frame reminded me of what was lost and what it could have been.

Sushant - a strong actor with a star presence, which was apparent from his first film Kai Po Che has displayed the complexities of his character with great maturity. While Sanjana Sanghi who has previously done brief roles in films such as Rockstar, Fukrey Returns, and Hindi Medium is terrific and has holded onto her character aptly as well.

Dil Bechara also has a great support cast with actors like Javed Jaffrey, Swastika Mukherjee of Paatal Lok fame, Saswata Chatterjee of Kahaani fame, and Sahil Vaid of Badrinath Ki Dulhania fame and Saif Ali Khan.

Even though the film has an adapted storyline, there is a certain freshness that will keep you engrossed. The movie has all the elements of drama, love, and a lot of emotions. Sushant who is seen playing the role who is full of hope and positivity will make the viewers miss him more for sure.

As far as the music is concerned AR Rahman contributes one of his warmest soundtracks - that has something like healing touch, enveloping warmth of melody, harmony, and familiarity, where there is nothing that’s jarring or experimental or harsh. Moreover, all songs have a story to narrate, which adds to the merit of the film.

Overall Dil Bechara is one of the most unpretentious tragic love stories told in a heart-warming manner. “The film is not about crying over what you may lose, but learning to live with what you already have,” and that pretty much sums up the story.

As a tribute to the heart-wrenching performance by the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Apeksha News Network is holding back on sharing a rating for Dil Bechara.
