Plot:
In the final season, Dark reaches its mind-bending conclusion, moving beyond the concept of space and time. Upon arrival in a new world, Jonas tries to make sense of what this rendition of Winden means for his own fate, while the ones left behind in the other world are left on a quest to break the loop that now not only bends time but also space. Two worlds: Light and dark and in the centre a tragic love story of epic proportions.
Review:
The third season follows the four families across time in the wake of the apocalypse in 2020, while also introducing a parallel world whose events are interconnected with those of the first world.
In alternate-dimension 2020, some of the unknown travellers are revealed to be working for Eva and deliver her keys to the nuclear power plant volume control system.
The makers have created a more complex dimension this time but the characters in this dimension have guided the audience well.
Alternate-dimension Ulrich addresses staff to let them know that Kilian, Bartosz, Franziska, Magnus, and Martha found the unidentified body from the 1980s. Alternate-dimension Charlotte visits the bunker and finds Helge's pendant. Hannah blackmails Aleksander to ruin Charlotte's life. Helge confesses he killed Mads Nielsen. Jonas explains his appearance in alternate-dimension Winden to the 2019 Martha, and takes her through the wormhole in the cave. The two emerge in a desert landscape and are approached by an adult Martha, who tells them they are in the future.
Season three takes things in a different direction which fans may not have been expecting and little more unexpected elements in comparison to the first two seasons.
Much of the loose ends are neatly tied up and the story is completed well. But there are some questions and the writing does a effective job in guiding the viewers on this journey. As per the over shadowed characters, this time- Vicari, too, is given much more to work with in this season and comes into her own. She serves as a strong equivalent to Hofmann’s Jonas as she embarks down her own path of self-discovery.
But all praises to the cast for managing to play different versions of the same character in both different timelines and worlds and maintaining the continuity and interrelatedness of the extensive narrative. The other big thing which makes Dark season 3 alluring is the production values. The unique aesthetic works just as much as the actors to inter mingle with the story.
There is no denying that this is compelling, terrifying and heart breaking - all at once!
