Daiya Healthcare Expands its Behavioral Health Program in Response to Pandemic

BELLEVUE, Wash.: Daiya Healthcare recently announced the expansion of its behavioral health program, adding Licensed Medical Health Counselors to its team of behavioral health clinicians. The group expanded its behavioral health program, specifically to serve residents of post-acute and long-term care centers whose mental health has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Daiya Healthcare’s Licensed Mental Health Counselors work with other members of the behavioral health team to coordinate care and provide talk therapy to residents.

We met with Daiya Healthcare’s CEO, Dr. Bhupinder Walia, recently. “Having our Licensed Mental Health Counselors go into our contracted facilities and provide much-needed talk-therapy to our residents, is crucial at this time. Depressive symptoms among residents in skilled nursing facilities across the USA is at an all-time high, and many of our residents need talk therapy to help them transition through the craziness we have all just been through with COVID-19,” says Dr. Walia. He adds, “Talk therapy is a vital component of non-pharmacologic intervention for patients with behavioral health concerns. As we target polypharmacy in each of our centers, we lean on non-pharmacologic interventions even more.” Daiya Healthcare has expanded its behavioral health program throughout Washington, Oregon, Idaho, New Mexico, and Hawai’i. “We anticipate expanding our behavioral health program to California early this summer,” says Michelle Thompson, Daiya’s Chief Strategy Officer.

Daiya Healthcare offers a multitude of support to the post-acute and long-term care centers in which it operates. Services include Medical Directorship, Primary Care, Psychiatry, Pain Management, Palliative Care, Cardiology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, and Pulmonology. In keeping with its spirit of innovation, the group added certified Infection Prevention Nurses to complete focused infection control surveys, assisting in keeping their contracted facilities in compliance with state and federal infection control standards. Further, Daiya Healthcare has deployed its team of Pharmacists to round in its contracted centers and work specifically on polypharmacy reduction with residents and providers.
