Plot: Comedy Couple is a modern-day love story of an urban couple, in a live-in relationship (Saqib Saleem and Shweta Basu), who aspires to be India’s first and best comic duo.

Review: The overall mood of the film is of an extended stand-up show, which is not a bad idea, since Deep (Saqib Saleem) and Zoya (Shweta Basu) draw most of their material from the reality that they face in the normal course of their day. Therefore, Comedy Couple is a film that would especially attract the viewers who live in metros like Delhi-Mumbai-Chennai-Bangalore, as it is more or less about the metropolis and its turbulent life.

But despite its somewhat fresh premise, the Nachiket Samant directorial follows the basic tropes of a generic romantic film. Therefore, as like most rom coms, you would already know how this one is going to end too. However, the director has managed to avoid being soppy, while narrating the mandatory emotional moments. In short, Comedy Couple works for its freshness in storytelling, more than the story it tells.

When it comes to performances, Shweta Basu Prasad as Zoya does an incredible job of playing someone who is confident and passionate about her goals. While Saqib Saleem looks like he is trying a tad bit hard to come across as the chill, upbeat and reckless Deep. Nevertheless, they strike impressive chemistry as Deep and Zoya.

Even the supporting characters Rajesh Tailang, Pooja Bedi, and Aadar Malik’s fleeting appearances add zest to the Comedy Couple.

As far as the technical aspects of the film are concerned, the story gets an irreverent yet authentic edge in screenplay and dialogues. Though the concept is not novel, at least it has some potential. But unfortunately, that potential is only realized towards the fag end of the movie.

Overall, the intent of this film is to cater breezy fun, and if you are looking for a couple of merry hours, the film is worth a watch!
