Chidambaram's arrest raised questions: Raja
Patna: CPI general secretary D Raja on Friday criticized the manner in which senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was arrested by CBI after being allegedly hunted down.
The arrest of Chidambaram, the former union finance minister, and former union home minister, by the investigating agency on Wednesday has raised several questions and it is for CBI to give a convincing reply, he told newsmen here.
"The way Chidambaram was been hunted down, detained and arrested has come under severe criticism," Raja told reporters here at the airport.
He was, however, quick to add "The law will take its course. Let us wait and see how the judicial process is going to be."
Raja, a CPI Rajya Sabha member, made it clear that he was not commenting on the merits of the case as his party has been fighting corruption "uncompromisingly".
The CPI general secretary, who is in Bihar to inaugurate the party's four-day state level training programme at Muzaffarpur, said that the law and order situation in the JD(U)-BJP ruled state is a "matter for concern".
"It is for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take note of the situation and see what he can do ... But he is in the company of BJP. Our party has been fighting against that party and its allies to save democracy, the Constitution and also to protect the rights and interests of the people of Bihar," he said.
Bihar is a historic place in terms of politics and will continue to play its role, he said adding that CPI is preparing itself for upcoming electoral battles.
"CPI will prepare itself ideologically, politically and organizationally," he asserted.
Raja was unanimously chosen the CPI general secretary at the party's National Council meeting on July 21, 2019. He replaced S Sudhakar Reddy who stepped down due to ill health.
