Brick Scholars Imagineer Robotic Theme Park

Local students collaborate to engineer and code LEGO theme park

WILSON, N.C.: Brick Scholars held an open house for their STEAM summer camp program, Build a Robotic Theme Park on June 28 from 2:30-3:30 pm at Imagination Station Science and History Museum in Wilson, North Carolina. Campers in rising grades 2-7 planned, built, and programmed LEGO robotic theme park rides, including a robotic carousel and ferris wheel, including a replica of the famous Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster. Campers worked in teams and collaborated to create their own unique robotic theme park rides and attractions and coded them to move robotically.

Campers from eastern North Carolina enrolled in the camp. Many campers have attended Brick Scholars introductory robotics and coding camp in prior summers.

Campers named their amusement park, Pandi Park. The amusement park has thrill rides that are built with legos and coded to move robotically. Campers learned the principles of physical science and simple machines as they went through the experiential learning STEAM camp. Campers learned about the engineer design process and design thinking as they went through the experiential learning  STEAM program.

According to Brick Scholars' founder Megan Oteri, learning through play is the best way to allow the natural creativity and imagination in a child to take its rightful place. She said, "Children learn best through play."

Imagination Station had free admission to the museum for attendees of Brick Scholars theme park open house to explore the many interactive exhibits throughout the museum, including the history exhibits on the third floor of the museum.

Brick Scholars will be offering more STEAM summer camps July 22-26 and August 5-9 at Imagination Station in Wilson and camps July 22-26 in Rocky Mount at the ECU/NC State University Collaborative.
