23 April is a symbolic date in world literature. It is the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes all died.

If you’re one of countless people who don’t make a habit of reading regularly, you might be missing out.

Reading has a significant number of benefits which are as follows-

1. Mental stimulation : Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of (or possibly even prevent) Alzheimer’s and Dementia, since keeping your brain active and engaged prevents it from losing power.

2. Stress Reduction : No matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal relationships, or countless other issues. It all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story.

3. Knowledge : Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information, and you never know when it might come in handy. The more knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any challenge you’ll ever face.

4. Memory Improvement : When you read a book, you have to remember an assortment of characters, their backgrounds, ambitions, history, and nuances, as well as the various arcs and sub-plots that weave their way through every story. Amazingly enough, every new memory you create forges new synapses (brain pathways).

There are many others benefits of reading books such as Free Entertainment, Vocabulary Expansion, Improved Focus and Concentration and so on.

When you are borrowing a book there are some etiquette you need to follow –

1. Don't treat it like your own : Don't treat a borrowed book like your own, for chances are the person you're borrowing from treats books different from you

2. Do not fold the corners : Some have the habit of marking the page they left the book at by turning down the top corner of a page. Some thinks this harming the book. It's safer to use a thin bookmark to mark your place in the book.

3. Do not eat around the book : Many like to eat snacks or drink a warm beverage while reading. If you are reading and eating, make sure there is sufficient distance between the food/your mouth and the book and don't touch the book if your hands have food on them.

4. Do not stuff it in a bag : Chances are you're borrowing the book your friend had been recommending for a trip. It's okay to take the book travelling but make sure there's enough room in your travel bag to put the book safely, so the book won't bend, tear or fold.

So next time when you borrow any book from you friends, don’t forget to follow the above etiquette.
