Britain: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has announced a new series that will document the environmental activist Greta Thunberg’s fight for climate change. This announcement was made at the Showcase 2020, an event where BBC’s sales clients and production partners team up to discuss ideas.

“Climate change is probably the most important issue of our lives, so it feels timely to make an authoritative series that explores the facts and science behind this complex subject,” says Rob Liddell, Executive Producer of BBC Studios. The 17-year-old Swedish environmental activist began her crusade for climate change in 2018 when she skipped school for more than three weeks to protest outside Sweden’s parliament by holding up a board that read Skolstrejk för klimatet: “School Strike for Climate.” Since then, she has garnered international attention worldwide, with multi-city protests of million students each happening every week. On September 20, 2019, Thunberg inspired four million people worldwide to strike for climate change, and this strike is the largest climate action in human history.

“We can’t just continue living as if there was no tomorrow, because there is a tomorrow,” says Thunberg.

Thunberg is not affiliated with any political party, and neither is she a billionaire with answers to fix the problem. While she is an ordinary girl, she does have the extraordinary ability to speak the truth to those in power of deciding to make a change. Her candid demeanor has attracted the attention of not only the youth, but also political leaders and governments. Since her strike at her school, she has spoken to the heads of the state at the UN, the President of the United States, and countless other individuals willing to fight for climate change. For her selfless and inspiring actions, Thunberg was named TIME’s Person of the Year 2019, and has been nominated for 2019 and 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.

From influencing the youth to her appearances at the UN conferences and summits, the BBC documentary will cover all the aspects of Thunberg’s international crusade to fight for climate change.

“To be able to do this with Greta is an extraordinary privilege, getting an inside view on what it’s like being a global icon and one of the most famous faces on the planet,” says Liddell.
