The show 'The Root Cause' highlights the importance of wood. Charcoal is also made from wood and it is further used to create paintings. In this, both Gautam & Rupali celebrate the mediums Charcoal & Wood through their brilliant works.

"Living under lockdown due to COVID-19 for the past 2 years+,  it was natural to feel bogged down so we would paint, experiment with wood, stone, charcoal, and give life to walls around us to feel relaxed. For me art, be it photography or sketching, or painting, has always been therapeutic and especially helped during this lockdown. I've realised that art offers me a gateway to a more surreal and happy place and these works are a personification of the situation around us",  shares Gautam Patole on the profound charcoal works he dived into during lockdown.

Some of the eye-catchy works to watch out for in the upcoming show are 'Old Glory' which depicts the painting of women framed in an old frame which shows women dressed in Pre-independence era. 'Woman on the top', shows how women rule the world with their capabilities whereas the charcoal work 'Marvel' shows women around a very old stepwell which is an architectural marvel. In 'Playful Life', you see how kids used to play years back and now they don't have time for such games. The charcoal work 'ye re ye re pavsa !!' plays around the emotion of monsoon which gives immense pleasure to kids who soak in rains without any inhibition and in 'Warmth of morning rays', is a hard-hitting take on today's life where it is rare to see such scenes nowadays due to fast pace of life and people relocating to metro cities.

Rupali has completed sculpting in wood and stone at KPJ Prabhu Art Institute from Banglore.  She has also taught art in BYCULLA JAIL, special children at thane, and blind women at NAB.  She says "I have always wanted to balance art as a profession and social responsibility for giving back to the society is the key to my happiness of life. Mostly my work is inspired from Indian traditional sculpture, architecture, temples, etc. The pandemic helped me more to work for my passion which is of working in nature and for villagers. My purpose of life is to create and connect with people". She is also the Founder of ERA FOR WOMEN, NGO for empowering rural women, and is active for the past 12 years.

During lockdown, Gautam and Rupali started an Art Studio called ROOTS, near Karjat. They together design and beautify bungalows, resorts, and farmhouses. Rupali also helps adivasi women of nearby villages by making them self-reliant.
